Papagal

The challenge

Papagal is a small, very fast Mac app for anyone who works with data files. Developers and analysts size up a tool like this in seconds. They want to know which formats it opens, whether it is truly native or another Electron wrapper, what it costs and whether their data ever leaves the machine.

The site also had real jobs beyond marketing. It had to sell the Pro licence, answer support questions and serve the update feed the app checks for new versions, without a separate backend to maintain.

What we built

We designed the whole site as a spreadsheet. A formula bar runs across the top, columns are lettered A to L, sections are numbered like rows and the headline is set in a pixel typeface. The app is introduced as a dictionary entry: papagal, from the Bulgarian word for parrot. Visitors get what the app does before they read a single feature.

The page follows the order people decide in: supported formats, features, the free and Pro comparison, privacy, then an FAQ. The free tier and the $15 one-time Pro price sit right under the headline, next to the download size and the macOS requirement, so nobody has to hunt for them.

Under the hood it is a Next.js site on Vercel. Pro purchases go through a Polar checkout, contact messages are delivered by email with Resend, and the site itself serves the appcast feed the Mac app uses to find updates. Privacy, security and terms pages ship in the same build.
